'Close to Croyden'

Synopsis

Hugo, a PR consultant and Martha, a museum education office are trapped in an overturned railway carriage following a rail crash, waiting tensely to be rescued. A touching relationship begins to develop between them as they amuse each other, annoy each other, tell stories, jokes and secrets, sing songs and play word games. Just as rescue seems likely they are torn apart by tragedy.

This piece was entered into several One Act Festivals including Cheltenham and Malmesbury and won a number of awards including 'Best Actress', 'Festival Winner' and 'Best in Gloucestershire' in Cheltenham. it then went on to the Central Divisional Finals at Shrivenham, where it achieved an 'Award of Merit'.

Also performed in 1998 were Nelson Bond's 'staged dramatic reading' of George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and "Move Over Mrs Markham", a comedy by Ray Cooney and John Chapman, but I currently have no further details of these performances
