'The Servant of Two Masters'

 by Carlo Goldoni

24th - 26th November 2016

Synopsis

"The Servant of Two Masters" is a classic Italian comedy by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. Originally written in 1746 it has recently been adapted for the West End as "One Man, Two Guvnors". Truffaldino, the servant of the title, causes chaos and confusion when he finds himself employed by two different people at the same time.

Neither master knows about the other, something made even more complicated by the fact one that one is a lady disguised as a gentleman, and the other is her lover, separated from her in tragic circumstances. Comedy ensues as Truffaldino seeks to serve both separately without the other knowing.

It's not all about the acting

The Oldland Player's usual venue is the upstairs function room at the Oldland Village Club, which is a great and homely venue for our audiences, but a theatre it is not. Before we can start our final rehearsals we first need to build our set. This is generally at least a day's work and is a great example of the whole society pulling together as we regularly get members from the group who aren't involved in the up-coming production popping along to lend a hand.

This year we took some photos to show how we transformed the room into 1950s Venice.

The adjudication for this show, as well as those for many others, is available in the members’ section of the site
